John Rummel – 2026-APR-9: All the documents were found and digitized during the project to document Madison Astronomical Society history, project ended in 2023.
John Rummel on 8/26/2026: This photo is from the Madison Society archives. It is undated but clearly an ALCON. The writing on the upper left identifies Tom Cave, head of Cave Optics until his death in 2003. It’s a 6×11-inch print in pretty fair shape. Based on the suit/dress styles and the kids’ clothing, I’m guessing it was around 1955-60.
Carl Wenning: Madison hosted the 1954 National Convention of the AL. I’m guessing the image was from that year.
John Rummel: I have confirmed that the location of this picture is Babcock Hall, on the campus of the UW-Madison. I think that definitively seals the deal: the photo was taken at the 1954 ALCON here in Madison.
